Windows XP SP3 Install

Well I managed to install Windows XP SP3 on a number of my Windows PC today.

I can say that the download and install takes about an hour but it did install well and so far I have not had any problems with any of my machines.

Here is a list of the software that I am running and all is working well

  • Norton AV
  • iTunes
  • AppleTV working well After more testing I found out that this had problems read this more recent Blog.
  • Skype
  • NTRConnect (Remote control software)
  • Mozy Backup
  • Microsoft Office
  • File & Print Sharing is working well

So I can say that this time Microsoft seemed to have released a good service Pack. Fingers crossed all will be well over the next couple of days.

  1. Interesting. Did you notice any sort of performance slowdown at all? I remember that SP2 slowed my machine down noticably, mostly when loading up big uncompressed audio files in recording software. I’ve finally got my machine working just the way I want it, so I’m pretty paranoid about installing SP3…

  2. I have now installed SP3 on all of my XP PC and VM’s (about 25 in total and so far I have had no problem). Mind it is still early days.

  3. Cheers, thanks for that. I noticed a couple of posts on Slashdot talking about issues with AMD processors, so I think I’m still going to hold off for a while.

  4. Did everything MS said to do in order to install WIN XP SP3. After SP3 installs PCL5ERES.DLL, it starts to update the registry and then everything stops. Access Is Denied. The RESET.CMD didn’t work. I’m pretty sure that PCL5ERES is printer related but don’t know what to do next.
